One of the most prestigious cycling events in the calendar will be hosted at Springboard Adventure in Hetton Lyons Country Park this coming weekend, 12th-14th January 2018.
Springboards’ horticulture team lead by Tom Hill and supported by Mike Jenkings, and Springboard Adventure manager John Pooley, have been coordinating the preparations on site ready for one of the biggest events of the year. Learners have been honing there skills in strimming, pruning and path restoration ready for riders across the country.
The National Cyclo Cross championship, which is being ran by Hetton Hawks CC has been working in collaboration with Sunderland City Council, Springboard Adventure and The Friends of Hetton Lyons Country Park to make this popular event a success.
Cycle Cross is an excellent spectator sport, so why not bring the family down to Hetton Lyons Country Park this weekend and join in on the fun!
National governing body British Cycling has announced that the National Cyclo-Cross Championships will be live streamed on British Cycling’s website and Facebook page. Eurosport will also offer coverage, and the Sky red button will be showing the event.
Riders riding for Hetton Hawks, who have trained in Hetton Lyons Country Park ran by Springboard Adventure include Katie Hadnum and Ben Partridge for under 14’s, Josh Charlton, who is on the Olympic development academy programme with British Cycling, Harrison Lee, Thomas Godber and Harry Morris. Junior boys include Paul Errington, Ben Dowson and James Mitchell. Daniel Charlton who is coach and experienced rider for the U23 men, and Chris Glass who is coach for U40’s. Other riders who have started at Hetton and moved onto race teams are Anna Kay and Marie Lynn, Thomas Mein, Stephen Lee, Finlay Robertson, Oliver Draffon and Joseph Allen.
