Yesterday, our Level 1 and 2 Health and Social Care learners headed to Holly House Care Home for a day of Easter Activities with the residents.

The learners and residents sang some songs, and made new friends. One of our learners even secured a placement too! We had a lovely lunch with everyone too.

Everyone now has a better insight of what working in social care may be like. We can’t wait to go back, thank you for having us!

our Level 2 Childcare learners have been looking at progression

routes

within their vocation.

Learners looked at how their local community has changed over the past 20 years and how they feel about their future. They spoke about anxiety over exams and vocational qualifications and how the pressure to make something of themselves makes them feel.

Gemma, Care Team Leader gave some great advice: “It’s ok to not know what you want to do for the rest of your life. Things change. It’s about the skills we develop to make us better and utilising them in every aspect of our lives to make change possible.”

Learners were given resources to be able to take ownership of their career paths and get a better understanding of what they need to achieve.

Springboard Futures learner, Brandon, is currently on a work experience placement at the new recycling centre in Pallion. Brandon was invited along this morning to be a part of the official launch ceremony and was asked if he would like to cut the ribbon for the official opening!

This is a monumental achievement for Brandon as he faced this challenge whilst being out of his comfort zone, away from peers, and in the public eye.

Massive well done to Brandon! We’re all very proud.

What apprenticeship standard are you working towards?
– Business admin level 3

How easy or hard is it to study and work full-time?
– Finding time to study and work full time can be a challenge at times however if you have the motivation to succeed then you will push yourself to thrive while at work and in all studies you complete to ensure a good future for yourself.

Why did you choose the apprentice route, rather than college or employment?
– I decided to go down the apprenticeship route rather than college as I thought it was more beneficial for me. While working towards the apprenticeship standard I am also gaining experience and building my knowledge skills on what a working environment is like.

What would you advise anyone considering an apprenticeship?
– I would suggest considering an apprenticeship if you are eager to gain experience like I was and if it will benefit you in your working/job goals. Make sure you put in the effort to learn how to manage time appropriately, taking any support and any training given. Don’t feel shy or embarrassed about asking colleagues, team members, and advisors like your apprenticeship tutor for support and help as they all are here to help and want to see you succeed. Make sure you enjoy the course you choose.

Employed by We Care Recruitment Solutions Ltd, she has mastered every part of her apprenticeship so far, producing amazing work and demonstrating excellent skills, knowledge and behaviors. She is motivated, mature and extremely hardworking.

Angelica started her apprenticeship supporting the recruitment consultants with admin, pre-screening and arranging interviews. She took to this like a duck to water and has recently been promoted to Trainee Recruitment Consultant.

On completion of her Business Standard, she hopes to progress to a successful career in recruitment and complete a higher or degree apprenticeship, or become a member of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation and work towards a Level 4 Diploma in Recruitment Management.

The sky really is the limit for this amazing young woman!

Meet Aimee 👋 – she is one of my fabulous students, currently working towards the Business Administrator Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard. She previously achieved a distinction in her Level 2 Apprenticeship and plans to progress to a Legal Executive Degree Apprenticeship, all fully supported (and 5% funded) by her employer – ICS Law, who recognise and celebrate her many strengths.

Aimee had the following to say about her experience so far: “After leaving school, I initially attended sixth form, with the view of achieving my A-levels, however after lockdown hit, I realised that this was not for me. Instead, I decided to start an apprenticeship through Springboard and achieved a Level 2 qualification in Customer Services and progress further to complete my Level 3 Qualification in Business Admin. I am still working towards this now and am enjoying the experience much more. I have found apprenticeships much more beneficial to me as it has opened up many opportunities to progress whilst working as well. Also, I have learned how I can work towards a career in my field too!”

Springboard are thrilled to announce we have been awarded the Gold Award for Better Health at Work! We have been working with the Better Health at Work Award for the last five years, helping to improve our staff’s physical and mental health and wellbeing. We have implemented many changes over the last five years, and the impact it has had on staff has been nothing but positive.

A huge well done to those colleagues involved in the award, including Amy for leading on the assessment, Annabell for her pastoral care and support, Kristie for the running club, Jasmin for the bike club, Chrissie and SMT for well-being Wednesdays and Steve for the staff gym (to name but a few!). As part of our ‘Orange the World – End Violence Against Women and Girls’ campaign our Hair and Beauty learners teamed up with our Construction learners.

The Hair and Beauty learners really enjoyed it, and want to go back next week. The boys really supported them and helped them with the task.

A few of the boys had some great positive feedback about the girls;

“She is better at sawing than me”

“She doesn’t need help from me she has picked this up straight away”

“You’re better at sawing on the line than me”

When asked if they would like more girls to join their class, the Construction learners said they ‘would encourage more girls to join our class’

This December Springboard will be supporting ‘Orange the World – End Violence Against Women and Girls.’

Violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread, persistent, and devastating human rights violations in our world today and is a threat to millions of girls and women online and offline. It affects women regardless of their age, background, or level of education. This violence takes many forms, including physical, sexual, or psychological violence, as well as economic abuse and exploitation.

We have lots of activities planned over the next few weeks to raise awareness, including special guest speakers dropping into Springboard.
