Springboard, VICS, Engie and Gentoo are providing a pilot programme of construction training for Veterans starting April 12^th.  The programme will equip participants with real world skills and experience designed and supported by two of the largest employers in this field.

You will have the opportunity to train in manicure, pedicure, nail art and make up. You will also gain skills in facial treatments, massage, face painting, spray tanning, reception work, customer service and many other areas of the beauty industry. This programme operates from our Pennywell base. The salon will have sessions where we are open to the public for treatments and you will also have the opportunity to spend time at a placement. For the first 12 weeks of any Study Programme, you will be enrolled onto our 12 week Take The Leap course. A 12 week course to gain a recognised qualification to help you progress into your chosen career. Our 12 week course involves employability skills, community projects, real life work experience and an adventure week.

Journey 2 Employment (J2E) is a peer led support programme. focusing on supporting disabled people, and people with long term health conditions back into or closer to employment. The aim of the course is to break down barriers faced by disabled people, and those with a long term health condition who wish to move into or closer to employment. It is a specialist course delivered by a person with expert and lived knowledge of disability called the community employment specialist (CES) It is a voluntary programme which is tailored to each participant on an individual basis, creating personalised action plans for each participant to work towards.

The group environment aims to encourage participants to form strong bonds, share experiences, work through issues such as confidence, motivation and how to manage health conditions including mental health.

In addition J2E works to change attitudes towards employment and encourage an environment of “I can” rather than “I can’t”.

The course is 12 weeks long. After the course has ended participants can still avail of support from the CES, as there is an employment HUB running weekly.

The employment HUB provides 1 to 1 support for any participant who needs additional support from the CES. This includes further support with  completing job applications and searching for jobs.

The workshops delivered in J2E are as follows:

• Information about access to work and reasonable adjustments within the workplace
• Managing mental health such as anxiety and depression
• CV writing and interview techniques
• Mindfulness, stress management and condition management
• Looking at potential voluntary opportunities and work experience
• Outside trips and visits to and from employers
• Workshops on team building and confidence building
• Assessing and developing IT Skills and how to look for and apply for jobs
• Independent travel training
• Financial management and better off in work calculations
• IT Course (Employability Award)
• First Aid qualification

Our CSCS card qualification is a free 5 working day course for those who are aged 19+, unemployed and claiming benefits. Our CSCS card qualification runs from all of our locations, and you will cover subjects such as Working at a Height, Manual Handling, Hazardous Substances, Risk and Risk Assessments and Health and Safety legislation. 

You will gain a Health and Safety Level One qualification, and if you pass this will enable you to complete and gain the CSCS card. The Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment qualification is for learners wishing to apply for the Construction Skills Certification Scheme Green Card, although we are able to put you forward for other colour cards if needed. 

Our CSCS card qualification is intended for those working in, or wanting to start a career in labouring occupations only. Achievement of this qualification will demonstrate the learners understanding of key issues affecting safe working practices on UK construction sites. 

Our CSCS card qualification is part of an Employability Skills qualification, which is designed to support an individual successfully gaining a job, progressing in a chosen field, preparing the individual for further study and supporting the development of techniques required for successful independent living.

Our employability qualifications usually last for one full week and cover various sectors of employment, the majority with a guaranteed job interview at the end of the course. 

Employability Skills qualifications are designed to support an individual successfully gaining a job, progressing in a chosen field, preparing the individual for further study and supporting the development of techniques required for successful independent living.

You will develop your creative skills through digital media and learn the skills needed to work in design and print environment. Learners work in our design studios producing artwork using Apple Mac computers and industry standard software including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. Produce real work for real customers, working to their requirements and deadlines. You will also learn digital printing and use finishing equipment, therefore seeing a job through from initial brief to final product.

Our Hair and Beauty Therapy qualification is ran from our purpose built, public facing salon in Sunderland. This qualification provides training in manicure, pedicure, nail art, make up and aspects of hairdressing. 

Learners can also gain skills in hairdressing, facial treatments, massaging, face painting, spray tanning, reception work, customer service and many other areas of the hair and beauty industry. 

Learners on our Hair and Beauty Therapy course will also ensure responsibilities for actions to reduce risks to health and safety, contribute to the development of effective working relationships and prepare and maintain salon treatment work areas. 

Level 1 in Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector

Our Level 1 qualification is designed to build on the learners interest and passion for the hair and beauty industry, covering a wide range of skills from hair styling to make-up or nail art. The Level 1 qualification is designed for those learners who want to prepare for further learning or training within the hair and beauty sector. For our Level 1 qualification learners will need to complete practical demonstrations and assignments.

Level 2 in Beauty Therapy

Our Level 2 qualification covers a wide range of skills, from nail technology, facials, makeup, waxing and lash and brow treatments through to body massage and spa treatments. To gain a Level 2 qualification learners must show they have got a particular set of skills, therefore learners train in our purpose built beauty salon getting hands on working environment experience and carrying out treatments on models and paying clients. Learners will be assessed as they learn. 

Level 2 and 3 Apprenticeship in Beauty Therapy 

Our Apprenticeship in Beauty Therapy equips learners to work in one of the largest, trusted, professional and continually expanding industries within the Hair and Beauty sector. The work environment for apprentices can be varied and can include small, bespoke salons or luxury high end beauty salons and spas. Beauty Therapists work independently or as part of a team supported by a manager. Our Beauty Therapy apprentices must demonstrate a willingness to learn, have an enquiring and curious mind and are enthusiastic to learn about their chosen career in the beauty industry. A Beauty Therapist will carry out beauty therapy treatments in line with legal, industry and organisational requirements. These treatments may include; waxing, hand and nail treatments, foot treatments, facial skin care treatments, makeup application, eyelash and eyebrow treatments, massage and more.

On completion of any of our Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy qualifications you will have a variety of career paths to choose from. Many of our learners go on to careers such as beauty therapists, hairdressers, mobile beauty therapists, spa therapists and massage therapists.

Our Leadership and Management Apprenticeship is for someone who can take responsibilities for managing a team or discrete project. It is applicable to professional team leaders and supervisors, first line managers from all sectors. Higher and advanced apprenticeships are available. 

A team leader/supervisor is a first line management role, with operational/project responsibilities or responsibility for managing a team to deliver a clearly defined outcome. Individuals on this apprenticeship will provide direction, instructions and guidance to ensure the achievement of set goals. Key responsibilities on this apprenticeship are likely to include supporting, managing and developing team members, managing projects, planning and monitoring workloads and resources, delivering operational plans, resolving problems, and building relationships internally and externally.

Our Customer Care qualification is accessible to a wide range of learners of all abilities. The skills, knowledge and understanding gained in Customer Care will help learners prepare for work and may contribute to preparing learners for working life beyond education.

Customer Service Practitioner Apprenticeship Level 2:

Our Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner apprenticeship aims to equip learners with the ability to deliver high quality products and services to the customers of their organisations. The apprentices responsibilities will be to provide a high quality service to customers which will be delivered from the workplace, digitally or through going out into the customer’s own locality. Apprentices will cover dealing with orders, payments, offering advice and guidance, sales, after care and more. Customers interactions may cover a wide range of situations and can include; face-to-face, telephone, post, email, text and social media.

Customer Service Practitioner Apprenticeship Level 3:

Our Level 3 Customer Service Practitioner Apprenticeship  aims to equip learners to become a professional, offering direct customer support within all sectors and organisation types. Apprentices will be an advocate of customer service and they will act as a referral point for dealing with more complex or technical customer requests, complaints and queries. Customer Service Practitioners are usually responsible for escalated requests, sharing knowledge with wider teams and gathering and analysing data.
