CV Review Service

Springboard currently offer a free CV review service. If you’re looking to update your current CV or create a new CV, we have a dedicated careers department who can review your CV for free. You will receive written feedback on how to improve your CV, and how to make it appeal to potential employers.

You don’t have to be a Springboard learner to access this service, this service is free for anyone who needs it!

CV Hints & Tips

A CV, short for curriculum vitae is essentially a document that’s used to sell yourself – you use it to tell employers why they should hire you, and why your skills are perfect for the advertised job. Think of your CV as if you’re selling a house!

There are certain sections that employers expect to see on your CV and these are as follows;

Name and contact details

The first part of your CV should include your name and contact details. When it comes to your contact details, your email address and phone numbers are essential. Your address should also be included on your CV.

Personal Statement

Underneath your contact details you should include a personal statement, which tells employers a little bit more about yourself. This should be a short paragraph, explaining specific qualities, career goals and strengths relating to the vacancy you’re applying for.

Employment History

You need to include an employment history section of your CV, if you have just left school this can include work experience. Your employment history should outline previous job roles and any work experience or internships. Make sure to list them so your most recent role is at the top!

When listing your employment history, state your job title, employer, dates you have worked there and then bullet point or write a brief paragraph of your responsibilities and skills during that job role.

Education and Qualifications

The next part on your CV should be your education and qualifications. Again, list your education so your latest education is at the top. Include the name of the school/college, the dates you attended and the qualifications and grades you achieved.

If you haven’t left school, college or university yet, it’s a good idea to put your predicted grades down.

References

The final part of your CV should be references, which are contacts the employer will get in touch with to ensure your CV is correct, and to ask if they think they should hire you. Try to include one academic and one professional reference. This is not a vital part of your CV, and if you don’t have room you can simply write ‘references available on request’

Our CSCS card qualification is a free 5 working day course for those who are aged 19+, unemployed and claiming benefits. Our CSCS card qualification runs from all of our locations, and you will cover subjects such as Working at a Height, Manual Handling, Hazardous Substances, Risk and Risk Assessments and Health and Safety legislation. 

You will gain a Health and Safety Level One qualification, and if you pass this will enable you to complete and gain the CSCS card. The Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment qualification is for learners wishing to apply for the Construction Skills Certification Scheme Green Card, although we are able to put you forward for other colour cards if needed. 

Our CSCS card qualification is intended for those working in, or wanting to start a career in labouring occupations only. Achievement of this qualification will demonstrate the learners understanding of key issues affecting safe working practices on UK construction sites. 

Our CSCS card qualification is part of an Employability Skills qualification, which is designed to support an individual successfully gaining a job, progressing in a chosen field, preparing the individual for further study and supporting the development of techniques required for successful independent living.

Horticulture learners have the opportunity to learn how to use and maintain machinery, complete garden design, hard and soft landscaping, paving and fencing. You learn to plant trees, shrubs and plants, propagation and greenhouse work. Learners also undertake other qualifications such as brush cutting and first aid. These programmes are based in Hartlepool and at Hetton Lyons Country Park. Full commercial courses are also available.>

It is a challenging structured 12 week program for groups of 12-15 young people aged between 16-25. It begins with team building activities and meeting your new team, the 2nd week then includes a team building residential at a residential centre.

It continues with teamwork on real projects within the community and work placements. It culminates in each Team presenting its achievements to an invited audience and receiving their end of program certificates. During the course of the program you will uncover hidden talents, assume responsibility for tasks, develop team-working and communication skills, gain awareness of the local community and how the can contribute to it, and gain nationally recognised qualifications.

Our Hair and Beauty Therapy qualification is ran from our purpose built, public facing salon in Sunderland. This qualification provides training in manicure, pedicure, nail art, make up and aspects of hairdressing. 

Learners can also gain skills in hairdressing, facial treatments, massaging, face painting, spray tanning, reception work, customer service and many other areas of the hair and beauty industry. 

Learners on our Hair and Beauty Therapy course will also ensure responsibilities for actions to reduce risks to health and safety, contribute to the development of effective working relationships and prepare and maintain salon treatment work areas. 

Level 1 in Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector

Our Level 1 qualification is designed to build on the learners interest and passion for the hair and beauty industry, covering a wide range of skills from hair styling to make-up or nail art. The Level 1 qualification is designed for those learners who want to prepare for further learning or training within the hair and beauty sector. For our Level 1 qualification learners will need to complete practical demonstrations and assignments.

Level 2 in Beauty Therapy

Our Level 2 qualification covers a wide range of skills, from nail technology, facials, makeup, waxing and lash and brow treatments through to body massage and spa treatments. To gain a Level 2 qualification learners must show they have got a particular set of skills, therefore learners train in our purpose built beauty salon getting hands on working environment experience and carrying out treatments on models and paying clients. Learners will be assessed as they learn. 

Level 2 and 3 Apprenticeship in Beauty Therapy 

Our Apprenticeship in Beauty Therapy equips learners to work in one of the largest, trusted, professional and continually expanding industries within the Hair and Beauty sector. The work environment for apprentices can be varied and can include small, bespoke salons or luxury high end beauty salons and spas. Beauty Therapists work independently or as part of a team supported by a manager. Our Beauty Therapy apprentices must demonstrate a willingness to learn, have an enquiring and curious mind and are enthusiastic to learn about their chosen career in the beauty industry. A Beauty Therapist will carry out beauty therapy treatments in line with legal, industry and organisational requirements. These treatments may include; waxing, hand and nail treatments, foot treatments, facial skin care treatments, makeup application, eyelash and eyebrow treatments, massage and more.

On completion of any of our Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy qualifications you will have a variety of career paths to choose from. Many of our learners go on to careers such as beauty therapists, hairdressers, mobile beauty therapists, spa therapists and massage therapists.
