Apprentice Commis Chef

The Commis Chef covers the skills needed to work within the Catering Industry. This is the most common starting point in any Kitchen, learning you the basics which you need to progress through the ranks to be Head Chef. You will be employed as a Commis Chef and develop skills to prepare food by using, correct knife skills and equipment, measuring ingredients and portion sizes, understanding stock checks, and ensuring Food Safety is always adhered to.

About the course

Our Commis Chef Apprenticeships are designed to equip learners with the ability to deliver high quality dishes to the customers of the organisation. The learning journey of any chef will vary for each individual; however, it is necessary to understand and have experience in the basics that this role provides in order to progress to any future senior chef role.

What do you need to apply for the course?

Maths and English grades 4 or above.

N/A - An Apprenticeship is classed as full-time employment. You are employed by the employer as a full-time member of staff.

How will you be assessed?

An apprenticeship is a genuine job with an accompanying skills development program. Through your apprenticeship, you will gain the technical knowledge, practical experience, and wider skills you need for your job and career. You will gain this through a mix of learning in the workplace, formal off-the-job training, and the opportunity to practice new skills in a real work environment.

At the end of your apprenticeship, you will complete an End Point Assessment (EPA) carried out by an independent End Point Assessment Organisation. The assessment activities are designed to best draw out your knowledge, skills, and behaviors, whilst maintaining a rigorous and impartial assessment of your abilities.

A Commis Chef can lead to a number of career opportunities. As you can work your way up to a Senior Chef. The work environment can be varied in size, style, and ambiance, from cruise ships to Michelin star restaurants
